County officials said Wednesday the race was expected to tighten as mail-in totals have leaned "heavily in favor of Democratic candidates."
Pennsylvania once again emerged as a key battleground state in the race for president, with Republican Donald Trump making numerous trips to the state in recent days. On Saturday alone, he made four appearances. Democratic challenger Joe Biden was in Pittsburgh on Monday for an event with Lady Gaga, and then visited Philadelphia on Election Day.
In addition to the race for president, Bucks County's congressional seat is on the ballot. In the 1st District, Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick fended off Democratic challenger Christina Finello.
The race was called in Fitzpatrick's favor by the Associated press just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Here are the current totals in the congressional race:
Fitzpatrick: 217,435
Finello: 145,764
Officials in Pennsylvania have said it could be days before the final unofficial vote tally will be known, and even then the results will have to be certified by each county before they become official. Around 200,000 of Bucks County's 470,000 registered voters were expected to vote by mail-in or absentee ballot.
When awaiting real-time results on election night, it's important to note that the final vote tallies will take longer than in previous election cycles due to an increase in mail-in voting, even for smaller state races, officials have said.
