Central Bucks South Student Wins First-Place At PSEA Art Show

Tara Ryan won first-place in the 3D Functional category at the "Touch of the Future" show.

Central Bucks South art student Tara Ryan won first-place in the 3D Functional category at the Pennsylvania State Educators Association “Touch of the Future” show, hosted by Arcadia University in Glennside.

Ryan won $50 for taking first-place in the category with her art work, titled “Lemon Jar.” Her piece was one of 253 works of art from students representing 27 public school districts throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

Hatboro-Horsham High School artist Cassidy Quattro won first-place overall with a black and white drawing titled, “Voice of a Revolution.The winning artist was also awarded $200.

The show, which was in its 28th year, was open from March 1 through March 19. Prizes were funded by the Mideastern Regional Pennsylvania Education Association.

Souderton’s Sabrina Marks was second and won $150 with a black and white drawing, titled “Monocle.” James Griffin of Jenkintown was third with an Oil Painting titled, “Ethan.” He also took home a $100 prize.

The PSEA also purchased two pieces of art that will be permanently displayed in the PSEA Mideastern Regional office in Montgomeryville. Each of the artists were awarded $150.

Shannon O’Malley of Pennsbury had her 3D functional stained glass lamp, titled “Shades of the Sea” purchased. Lower Merion student Dan Matthews’ acrylic painting,titled “Suburnscape, will also be displayed.

The PSE awarded $50 to the winners of 14 categories. The following is a list of all winners and also their teachers:

Digital Imaging/Computer Graphics: Julia Cook; North Penn, “Drawing Story-board.” Teacher: Michael Werner.

B & W Drawing: Becca Watson; Upper Dublin, “Dark Horse.” Teacher: Lynne Pribis

Color Drawing: Ariel Rabinowitz; Council Rock North; “Good Morning.” Teacher: Lynne Haydon.

Fiber-Crafts: Andrea Barnes; Lower Merion, “Milky Abyss.” Teacher: Louise Pierce.

3D Functional: Tara Ryan, Central Bucks South, “Lemon Jar.” Teacher Tina Warren.

Jewelry/Metals: Shaina McCullough, Upper Merion, “Untitled.” Teacher: Megan Bishop.
