Chalfont Community Mourns Loss Of Bob Byers

The Bucks County native was known for his service to charitable organizations in the Doylestown area.

CHALFONT, PA — Friends and family members of Bob Byers, Sr., are mourning his loss following his passing on Monday.

Robert Louis Byers, 82, of Chalfont, died peacefully at home with his family at his side, according to his obituary. Over the years, the Bucks County native and his wife, Joyce Fritz Byers, have become known and recognized for their charitable work in the community.

Byers graduated from Drexel University in 1965, where he met his wife, who was an artist. He later served as a trustee of the university. In 1978, they founded Byers' Choice Ltd., a gift shop in New Britain Township known for its holiday decorations and Caroler Christmas figurines. They later formed the Byers Foundation, which continues to donate a portion of company profits to charitable organizations.

In Doylestown, he was co-founder of Bucks Beautiful, the James A. Michener Art Museum and the Bux-Mont Katrina Relief Project. At the national level, he served on the national board of the Salvation Army for 18 years, and in his later years, he was active in the leadership of Care In Action, a Fort Lauderdale-based homeless charity.

The couple was recognized by the Greater Philadelphia Area National Fundraisers as Philanthropists of the Year for 1993. Seven years later, they received the Caring Institute’s National Caring Award for their philanthropic efforts.
