And that did not include house fires and other emergencies.

?Originally organized on August 4, 1879, the beginning of a local volunteer fire fighting team began earlier in 1822,? said the mayor. ?For over two centuries, Doylestown has benefited from volunteers who dedicate themselves to the protection of our community from the danger and risks of fires and natural disasters.?

The mayor continued, ?We thank you for volunteering; not just for the calls, but for facing danger, for all the training, fire prevention education, attending a myriad of public events, hose testing, station and hydrant maintenance, vehicle checks, budgeting, staying current on firefighting changes, escorting Santa through town and beyond.

?You leave your homes and families at a moment's notice, in service to the communities you live in and around, aiding other fire companies as they assist you.

?Our fire department exemplifies the commitment, selflessness and compassion of volunteerism and its basic expression of human relationships ? We thank everyone for coming back call after call.?

Mayor West presented a copy of the resolution to Fire Chief Michael Wood and Fire Company President Paul Kreuter.
