1. Why are you running for school board? If elected, what will your priorities be?

I am running for school board to bring common sense and balance back to the board. With my 37 years of experience in education, I will bring my expertise, knowledge, and genuine care for all students, families, and community to the board. If elected, I will ensure wise and efficient budgets are developed and implemented. Rising school taxes are a growing concern for our community, especially our seniors. A comprehensive review of our budget is needed with a plan for reducing costs where possible. If elected, I will strengthen the lines of communication between parents, staff, community, and the board through open dialogue and collaboration.

2. What do you see as the major issues facing the district and how would you address them?

Academics (proficiency levels) have slipped over the past few years in some of our schools. I would ensure the board invests in robust intervention programs for our students needing support in math or reading. In addition, I would recommend professional development for our teachers to equip them with the tools/strategies to assist our students. Another major issue facing our district is the lack of following child abuse protocols. I would recommend a review of that process for all new employees during on-boarding as well as continuous training for all existing employees.

3. What would you like to see in a new superintendent? Where would you like to see him/her focus their energies?

I am looking for an experienced leader who leads with integrity, transparency, professionalism, and honesty. He or she must be student-centered and focused on academic excellence, parental engagement, and community involvement. The new superintendent will need to focus on ways to build genuine relationships with the entire school community in order to restore the trust of all stakeholders. He or she must be masterful in shifting the focus off of the negativity of the past and continue to highlight and celebrate all the good in Central Bucks.
