Mid-Week Storm Could Bring 12+ Inches Of Snow To Eastern PA

A mid-week storm could bring a foot of snow or more to the region. Here are the latest snowfall predictions for the Philadelphia area:

PHILADLPHIA, PA — Forecasters are growing increasingly confident that a significant winter storm will impact the East Coast, including the Philadelphia region, mid-week.

The storm, which the Weather Channel said in an update Sunday is "increasingly possible" Wednesday into Wednesday night, is likely to bring accumulating snow along the I-95 corridor from Boston to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C.

Some areas could see a foot or more of snow, AccuWeather said.

But there will also be rain, especially closer to the coast. Forecasters with AccuWeather said the exact track of the storm system remains unclear. That track will have a large impact on who sees the worst conditions.

Here are the current early snowfall predictions from AccuWeather:

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, saying a coastal storm will likely bring "significant" accumulating snowfall to the area Wednesday into Wednesday night. There is also the chance for coastal flooding.

As the storm intensifies along the mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday, "a swath of particularly heavy snow is likely to develop. Strong winds will also develop and could accompany heavy snow creating localized blizzard conditions," AccuWeather said in a news release about the storm.

"The swath of heaviest snow and highest snowfall accumulation is dependent on the exact track of the storm, and small changes in where the storm tracks can lead to big changes in the amounts of snowfall for a given location," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tyler Roys said. "However, with a track near the mid-Atlantic and New England Coast looking more likely, the probability of the heaviest snow targeting parts of the mid-Atlantic and southern New England is also increasing."

Meanwhile, some snow is also in the forecast for Monday.

Rain and snow Monday morning will turn to all rain in the afternoon. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch is possible in the Philadelphia region, according to the National Weather Service.
