Republican Announces Campaign For Plumstead Township Supervisor
Among her top priorities as supervisor is to ?prevent Plumstead from unchecked overdevelopment and poorly designed traffic patterns."

PLUMSTEAD TOWNSHIP, PA ? Republican Lurleen Worthington has announced her campaign for Plumstead Township Supervisor under the tagline, "The Right Woman for The Job!"
Lurleen and her husband, Chance, have lived in the township for more than 26 years where they raised their children, now ages 21 and 22.
"It?s important to preserve the unique quality of life we have in Plumstead Township," said Worthington, who calls Plumstead "the perfect blend of scenic open space, vibrant neighborhoods, active farmland, beautiful parks, and thriving small businesses.

?We pride ourselves in living minutes away from more urban townships with ample shopping and entertainment, yet we can return home to the rural, peaceful community, where urbanization and commercialization have yet to make its mark on our way of life," she said in a press release announcing her campaign.
Among her top priorities as supervisor is to ?prevent Plumstead from unchecked overdevelopment and poorly designed traffic patterns, as has happened in some townships."

She cited a recent community survey that revealed that more than 95 percent of Plumstead residents believe the township is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. "That is significantly over the national average," she said.
Out on the campaign trail, Worthington said residents have told her how much they appreciate the historic landscape and the thriving neighborhoods of Plumstead.
?I believe a huge part of that is how well land development and land preservation are balanced, consistent with our zoning ordinances," she said. "Land development can be very beneficial to a community when it is done correctly in accordance with the overall goal of protecting the character and charm of a community.
"Being that I was born and raised on a dairy farm, I want to help our farmers benefit from conservation easements/tax benefits from land preservation, while at the same time helping them maximize their ability to monetize the value of their land within the parameters of responsible development," she said.
Prior to the supervisor election in 2021, the hot topic was the ?Stump Road Rezone? which she said threatened the northern part of the township?s residential area and drew overwhelming criticism from township residents.
?So significantly, that the voters made their voices heard at the polls, and with the supervisors
they voted in that year, the plan was indefinitely shelved," she said. "Please know, that I understand the importance of listening to the needs and concerns of residents and a vote for me is a vote to keep this plan indefinitely shelved.
"On that note, over the past year I have regularly attended township meetings so that I can be in tune to the wide-ranging concerns from throughout the township," she said.
Worthington has worn many hats over the years, from a registered nurse and an active volunteer in her church and children's schools to sitting on numerous committees. She has organized children?s clubs and held leadership positions in women?s ministries. She is currently acting property manager for income-producing properties and sits on the Plumstead GOP Board.
?These positions have taught me hard work, fiscal responsibility with budgets and to recognize that to get a job done properly, it is important to listen to people?s needs and concerns," she said. "Whether one lives in a neighborhood or farms their land, we truly are a wonderful tight-knit community who care for our neighbors. I am committed to working hard to determine where financially prudent decisions can be made, that will best serve the residents of Plumstead Township so that we can continue to call Plumstead a wonderful place to live and raise our children."
