78-year-old Hatboro Woman Finds Greener Institute; Loses Her Pain

How the Community is Using The Greener Institute to Ease Chronic Pain and Resume Rigorous Activities

Riddled with arthritis and experiencing severe hand, leg, and hip pain 78-year-old Mary, a Hatboro resident, and members of her family knew there had to be an alternative to traditional medicine.

Her grown children and grandchildren kept urging her to try non-traditional remedies after large doses of narcotics and injections were not solving her severe pain issues, and then a few weeks ago she discovered that they were right.

While shopping in Hatboro, Mary heard about Barry Greenberg and The Greener Institute, a Hatboro-based community of local adults who know the benefits of pain relief through the legal treatment of medical marijuana, and she had to hear more.

So, she and her son went to see Greenberg at his storefront at 105 North York Road, and her conversations and treatments within the past three months positively transformed Mary’s life.

“I was nervous about this. I asked myself, ‘What’s it going to do?’ ‘How am I going to feel?’ Will I be groggy?’ She was willing to take a chance and is thrilled that she did.

“At my age, I figured it was time to take a chance," Mary explained, "and I am thrilled to report the outcome changed everything.”

Not only did Greenberg, and his associates, make Mary feel completely comfortable, while answering all of her questions and concerns, she began taking gummies, an edible form of the treatment, and she and her family members are stunned by the positive results for her arthritis, leg, hip, and arm pains, and more.

“Greenberg offered encouragement, conversation, explanation, and comfort,” she said. They never thought my questions and concerns were foolish. She appreciated that everything was done at her pace.

“In no time at all, my leg, hip, and arm pain was gone. It also took all the tension out of my back,” Mary recently explained. “It completely allowed me to walk without a cane or a walker. People like me who have arthritis truly suffer and the pain just went away.”

She also reduced her opioid pain meds as a result of the medical marijuana treatments.

“We went very slow and very careful,” Mary said. “I checked in with them every day and after each piece of medicine, Barry would tell me how to proceed. So, I never felt lost or confused.”

In addition, Mary had suffered from glaucoma for several years, including large amounts of mucus in her eyes when she woke up and throughout the day, requiring her to scrub her eyes and put in daily medicine.

Since Mary began working with Greenberg and his team, she only has these symptoms once or twice a week, as opposed to every day, and they are much milder.

As a result, Mary urges everyone who suffers from pain to contact Greenberg and The Greener Institute for help. “If you are really hurting and uncomfortable you won’t know until you try it. Going to Barry was the best decision I made.”

Her children and grandchildren are elated by the results and encourage her to do what she feels is best for her.

So much has changed in Mary’s life it has been stunning for her and her family. “I expect to be able to shop and do errands soon. In the meantime, before I met Barry and started the treatment I couldn't bend or clean my house. Any kind of cleaning was too difficult for me, and I love a clean house. Now I can clean for a while, take a TV break and go back to it. This is great. I love how things have changed.”

The treatment, gaining in popularity, is now approved in Pennsylvania for 23 medical conditions that may qualify a patient to receive a Medical Marijuana Card. Pennsylvania is one of 33 states to legalize medical marijuana.

The Greener Institute, which started two years ago, has caregivers and medical professionals who provide an evaluation, and educate and guide Mary and others that they help.

Among the 23 approved conditions are anxiety disorder, arterial lateral sclerosis (ALS), autism, epilepsy, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, and opioid addiction.
