New Council Member Appointed In Hatboro

HATBORO, PA ?The borough has its third new council member in the past six months.

The Hatboro Borough Council appointed Don Hoover to replace Councilman Todd A'Harrah, who resigned last month.

Hoover was sworn in by Mayor Tim Schultz during Monday night's meeting in front of his wife and two daughters.

Borough officials did not provide any background about Hoover at the meeting.

Council Vice President Nicole Reichner, Councilwoman Nicole Shay, and Councilman Alex Myers served on the replacement committee, reviewing applications and resumes. It was not known how many people applied for the position.

Hoover is a 30-year borough resident who has been employed by the Hatboro-Horsham School District since 2002, Borough Manager Diane Hegele said.

Hoover worked at Pennypack School, starting as a duty aid and playground monitor before progressing to the building facility coordinator. He is currently the facility coordinator at Crooked Billet School.

"He works tirelessly on coordinating and volunteering with many community events," Hegele said.

He currently serves on the borough?s Pennypack Events Committee, helping with Bingo, Music in the Meadow, and Sip N? Shop. He is also a member of Lehman Methodist Church.

According to Hoover's Facebook profile, he is from Curwensville and has been married since 1987.

Hoover was appointed unanimously. Council members did not offer any words about the appointment or process and Hoover did not speak after being appointed.

He took his seat with the council and posed for pictures with the governing body following the meeting.

Hoover replaces A' Harrah, a Republican, who was appointed five months ago to join the all-Democratic council when Vice President Dave Stockton resigned because he was moving out of the borough. A'Harrah had previously lost in the November general election to unseat Councilwoman Amanda Jacobus.

Councilwoman Nicole McMenamin recently resigned because she was moving out of town.

McMenamin was recently honored for her four years of service at last week's council meeting. She was replaced by Jennifer Hendrickson in late June.
