Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving BucksMont (CHHJMBM) has made a commitment of time and “HUNK-power” to assist victims of domestic violence in the communities it serves, by offering no-cost moves and junk hauling services in their time of need. In a partnership with A Woman’s Place (AWP), a domestic violence shelter headquartered in Doylestown, Pa., the company recently assisted one of the organization’s clients with their relocation. CHHJMBM’s efforts are part of a nationwide initiative started by the company’s founders and spreading across the country in communities CHHJMBM franchises serve.

Marianne Lynch, Executive Director, A Woman’s Place, expressed her gratitude for the services CHHJMBM recently donated. “AWP is grateful for our partnership with College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving. For survivors of domestic violence, starting a new life can seem overwhelming, especially when you’ve had to leave so much behind. Having some familiar items, such as a kitchen table and a couch can provide some sense of normalcy and stability. While moving may seem like a simple thing, the act of kindness provided by College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving BucksMont of conducting this move at no cost to AWP for our client will help this survivor begin her road to flourishing.”

In order for a no-cost move to take place, a person in need should first contact a certified domestic violence shelter. Once the qualifications for the move are met, the shelter can contact College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving BucksMont at 215-327-1946 for assistance. Those needing assistance outside of the BucksMont service area can contact NationalAccounts@CHHJ.com. The nearest CHHJ franchise location will then help the individual/family move to a safer location. Also, if necessary, the shelter can coordinate moving efforts with law enforcement so that both the victim and the College HUNKS team are supported and safe during the move.

“Since the COVID -19 pandemic started, we’ve been fortunate that our business remained essential and open,” said Cos Losco, co-owner of CHHJMBM. “Because business was slower, we had the truck resources and time to help give back to those in need. We’ve transported and delivered cases of food and my wife worked with another local business to help find and coordinate deliveries for organizations in need of food donations.” Losco added, “the company’s nationwide initiative to provide no cost moves for women in domestic abuse situations was something we absolutely wanted to participate in. These are difficult times for many and being able to help someone out of an abusive situation and into a safe environment gives us great satisfaction. We plan to continue this no cost move service for those who qualify and to expand our relationships with any shelter that we work with.”

In addition to providing no-cost moves and junk hauling, many College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving® franchisees are using their trucks to deliver COVID-19 testing and medical supplies to healthcare facilities. The company also supports efforts to end childhood hunger with its partnership with Feeding Children Everywhere (https://www.feedingchildreneverywhere.com), by providing a donation of two meals for every completed job.

NOTE: If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, there are ways to get help. In Bucks and Montgomery Counties you can contact 1-800-220-8116. Outside of BucksMont, you can contact the National Domestic Abuse Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or https://www.thehotline.org.
