Do You Miss These Restaurants From Childhood?
We asked Hatboro-Horsham Patch followers which restaurants that are now gone you loved as a child. You had plenty of thoughts.

HATBORO, PA — Last week, we asked Hatboro-Horsham Patch followers on Facebook which restaurants from their childhoods they missed the most. And ... well ... you had plenty of thoughts.
In all, 71 Hatboro-Horsham folks responded with their memories of eating out as a kid and the spots they remember fondly that are no longer around any more. Here's a look at some of the dearly departed restaurants that got the most love:
- The Ground Round. Lots of people said they missed this casual-dining and steakhouse chain where, according to an old commercial (thanks, YouTube!) you could get a sirloin steak dinner for $3.99. "I loved to watch a movie during dinner!!!" one follower wrote. It was founded in 1969 by Howard Johnson. There are now only 22 locations left. But, hey, if the nostalgia bug bites you, the nearest one is just down the road in Langhorne.
- Chi-Chi's. Some of you still recall this Mexican chain fondly, even though it folded in America after a 2003 Pittsburgh-based Hepatitis A outbreak traced to its green onions left four people dead and more than 660 sickened. The chain still exists overseas.
- Gino's. A lot of you miss having the regional favorite nearby.
- Walt's Restaurant. "The finest food, prepared to perfection," a 1957 advertisement promised at this local spot on York Road.
- Horn & Hardart. Founded in Philadelphia, you could get New Orleans-style chickory coffee at this spot, that was the region's first "automat" restaurant.
Other restaurants that got some love in the comments of our post included Inn Flight, Burger Chef, Bob's Big Boy, Warrington Diner, Ponderosa and Roy Rogers.
