Drug Take Back Day Is Oct. 26 In Hatboro-Horsham

The national event lets people dispose of unneeded or out-of-date medications, which police say can be abused.

HATBORO, PA — Police in Hatboro and Horsham will be joining departments across the nation on Saturday, Oct. 26, for Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Across Montgomery County, there will be 41 locations taking part in the day, organized locally by the Montgomery County District Attorney's office and the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County.

The nationwide event aims to provide a safe and convenient way to dispose of unneeded or out-of-date medications, while educating the public about the potential for abuse of these medications.

The event will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. In Hatboro and Horsham, the drop-off locations are:

  • Hatboro Police Department, 120 E. Montgomery Ave.
  • Giant Food Store (Horsham Police Department), 314 Horsham Rd.

"Just like the 'spring forward' and 'fall back' time changes are the time to remember to change batteries in smoke detectors, I hope it's also becoming the time where every household in Montgomery County knows to clear out medicine cabinets and bathroom cupboards of unwanted and expired medicines," said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele.

"This is another essential step to keeping your home safe."

MontCo's last two collection days yielded 7,716 pounds of prescription and over the counter medication in April and 9,056 pounds last October.
