Erin Brockovich Law Firm To Hold Community Meeting On Horsham Water Contamination

Weitz & Luxenberg, the law firm associated with consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, will hold a community meeting on June 28 to address residents' concerns over water contamination.

The law firm, which announced earlier in June that they will investigate the issue, will also present their findings in their investigation thus far, according to a news release.

“Residents are concerned and angry over this contamination, and rightly so – the water they thought was safe is actually far from it,” said Robin Greenwald, head of the Environmental and Consumer Protection Unit at Weitz & Luxenberg. “This meeting will allow us to hear more from the community and share what we have learned so far in our investigation.”

After the EPA issued new guidelines last month for PFOA and PFOS – synthetic materials used in firefighting at airfields, among other uses – several Pennsylvania communities showed elevated levels of the chemicals, including Horsham, Warrington and Warminster.

All of these communities are located near current or former military bases in the region where firefighting foam containing the chemicals has been used.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has now passed a resolution asking the federal government to address the contamination in these communities, and Governor Wolf recently called on the military to fund blood tests for nearly 70,000 residents in the area, the release states.

“25 years after I first found contaminated water in Hinkley, California, we are still dealing with entities polluting the water supply in our communities. The residents of Pennsylvania deserve information and answers and I will not stop until they get what they need to keep their families safe,” said Erin Brockovich, a consumer advocate who has been working to shine a spotlight on PFOA contamination across the country, in a statement.

The meeting will be held at the auditorium in Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove from 6 pm to 9 pm on Tuesday, June 28. All residents who may have been affected by the water contamination are encouraged to attend.
