Get Smoothies, Help Homeless Kids In Horsham This Summer

HORSHAM, PA — Planet Smoothie in Horsham is offering customers a chance to enjoy a smoothier every week this summer while helping some area kids in need.

For $35 per person, Horsham-area smoothie lovers will get a smoothie of any size every week through the end of September. Local owner Sherrell Oliver-Riley says half the money from the program will be donated to the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network's homelessness prevention program.

The program helps housing-insecure students in the Philadelphia School District.

"I'm excited to provide our customers with smoothies during the hottest time of the year, while assisting local families in need with rent assistance," said Oliver-Riley. "Not only will our customers be saving a few bucks, but they'll be helping us raise much-needed funds to help prevent homelessness in the region."

According to the network, more than 5,700 Philadelphia district students were homeless last year. That number is expected to increase as the coronavirus pandemic continues, they say.

Customers interested in participating should request a Summer Pass when they order their next smoothie at Planet Smoothie, at 575 Horsham Rd. in the Horsham Corner Shopping Center.

The shop offers more than 30 smoothie options in 16, 22, 32 and 44-ounce sizes. Normally, prices range from $4.72, for the smallest option, to $9.34.

Since 1991, the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network has moved 910 people in 325 families out of homelessness.. The program provides assessment and referrals, emergency housing, support services and transitional housing.
