Hatboro Man, Vietnam Vet, Beloved Local Doctor Passes At 85
Dr. Harry Dean Snyder, a field surgeon in Vietnam, practiced medicine in the Hatboro area for decades.

HATBORO, PA — Dr. Harry Dean Snyder, of Hatboro, PA, passed away on July 7, 2018 at Abington Memorial Hospital. He was 85 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne E. Snyder with whom he had shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Ambridge, PA, he was the son of the late Harry M. and Alfadine (nee McCleaster) Snyder.
Harry graduated Ambridge High School in 1950, Westminster College in 1954, and Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia in 1958. He served his county on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1970, including overseas duty in Vietnam as a Flight Surgeon and Ophthalmologist. Harry continued service to his country in the Naval Reserves for a total of 38 years, retiring as a Captain. He began to serve the Hatboro area community in 1970 by working at his private practice, serving as the Hatboro Health Officer and serving on the staff at Abington Memorial Hospital for 28 years. Harry was a member of Lehman Methodist Church, the Navy League, the Montgomery County Medical Society, and a Board Certified member of the American College of Ophthalmology.

Harry is survived by his four children, Cheri James and her husband, Lou, Janet McVan and her husband, Brian, Karen Edmondson, and Sandy Hendel and her husband, Robert. He was also very proud of his 13 grandchildren; Cheri’s children- Jennifer, Julia, Jessica, Kevin, Christina. Janet’s children-Brian, Jake, Shane. Karen’s children- Kirsten, Courtney, Kaitlyn, Christopher. Sandy’s child- Sydney; and finally, his four great grandchildren, Ariel, Lucas, Mackenzie, and Bradley. With this, his legacy continues.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, July 11th 6 pm to 8 pm at Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro. Services will be held at Lehman Memorial Methodist Church, 300 S York Rd, Hatboro, on Thursday July 12th with a 10 AM viewing until an 11AM Funeral Service. His interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.
