HORSHAM, PA — A medical marijuana dispensary approved for Horsham is expected to open in mid-to-late March, according to township officials.

Curaleaf, a Massachusetts-based company with 93 dispensaries in 23 states, currently is preparing the location, at 255 Horsham Rd., officials said. The company plans to open the dispensary, in the old Lucky 7 Deli and Fried Chicken building, in March, according to the township.

Marijuana for medical use in Pennsylvania may be distributed as pills, oils, topical creams or ointments, tinctures and liquids as well as in "dry form" for smoking.

In recent years, doctors have begun prescribing medical marijuana for a variety of illnesses, from chronic pain, glaucoma, muscle spasms and seizures to helping ease loss of weight and appetite for patients with AIDS, cancer and other diseases.

Both Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman have pushed publicly for the legalization of adult-use marijuana in the state.

Curaleaf has become the world's largest legal marijuana company. It is listed on the Canadian stock exchange and, last year, bought out competitor Grassroots Cannabis in a deal valued at around $700 million.

A company spokesperson on Friday did not immediately respond to a request for a comment for this article.
