Small Business Owner Of The Year: Horsham's Manuel Trujillo

Trujillo, who heads Horsham technology firm Swain Techs, was recognized by the American Small Business Association.

Horsham’s Manuel Trujillo had a vision and a plan, but he needed help to turn that dream into a reality.

He secured a loan through the Small Business Administration’s Loan Guaranty Program.

“Without the loan, I would have not being able to pursue my entrepreneurial dream,” he said.

And then just six years later, his company was named the minority owned small business of the year for the entire nation.

Trujillo has nurtured Swain Techs from its infancy into a thriving adulthood as an award winning enterprise technology system integrator, providing strategic technology solutions to a wide range of fields, from engineering to cyber security.

Swain Techs also recently won multi-million dollar contracts from clients like the Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Navy, Defense Logistics Agency, Department of Homeland Security, and Patent and Trade Office.

“It’s wonderful to have the privilege to recognize the achievements of leading minority-owned Pennsylvania small businesses like Swain Techs,” said Antonio Leta, U.S. SBA Eastern Pennsylvania Director. “Small businesses like these are where the rubber meets the road, helping drive our nation’s economic recovery and create jobs. SBA and our resource and lending partners, like Wells Fargo, are proud to play a role in helping them start and succeed.”

The SBA says that it recognized Trujillo for his leadership skills, which have brought the company profitability and grown it from seven to 45 employees.

Trujillo has also helmed the company’s expansion to an additional Washington, D.C. office, allowing them to better service the federal market.

“We give (companies) peace of mind,” Trujillo said.

Swain Tech’s contributions to the local economy were also noted in the commendation.

Trujillo, originally from Columbia, also co-founded and led a small IT firm in his native Bogota.
