Snow Extends School Year

As a best-case scenario, Hatboro-Horsham schools will be in session through June 13.

But, how long schools remain open beyond the previously set June 12 calendar really depends on how much additional inclement weather Mother Nature has up her wintry sleeve.

"Hopefully we're done for the year," Superintendent Curtis Griffin said during this week's board meeting.

The district's first school makeup day is slated for April 16, which had been previously scheduled as an inservice day, he said. The second makeup day will extend the school year to June 13, according to Griffin. 

"I think we’re in a good position because we still wrap up school the second week in June," he said. 

But, makeup days of three or four–or more–could mean "making some major changes in our calendar."

Some buildings are not air-conditioned and become extremely hot in the summer months, he said. An option would be to hold school on April 17, if necessary, he said. 

The plan is to "stay away from" opening on May 20, which is primary election day, Griffin said.
