Child Who Saw CHOP Doc With Coronavirus Has Flu-Like Symptoms

The elementary school student in Horsham is showing cold and flu-like symptoms, school officials said.

HORSHAM, PA — At least one of the roughly two dozen patients who came into contact with a Montgomery County doctor with coronavirus now has cold and flu-like symptoms, according to school officials.

Officials at Simmons Elementary School in Horsham are awaiting test results for a student who saw the doctor at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia facility in King of Prussia. The school is scheduled to be close for the third day in a row on Thursday.

Hatboro-Horsham School District officials said the student is sick when announcing the latest closure on Wednesday afternoon.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia doctor with coronavirus had contact with 17 staff members and around two dozen patients at an outpatient facility in King of Prussia, the hospital said Tuesday in a statement providing additional details surrounding the case.

CHOP said they were able to get in touch with all families that had contact by 4 p.m. Monday. All staff and families have been told to self-quarantine. The exposure has prompted several school closings, including in both Bucks and Montgomery counties.

The doctor was diagnosed with coronavirus on Sunday, March 8, CHOP said. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was listed in critical condition.
