Toys for Tots Elves Shop for $15K in Toys for Local Kids in Need
Toys R Us in Horsham donated carts full of toys to the local chapter of the national nonprofit organization.
About 30 Toys for Tots volunteers with the Glenside Chapter – which serves thousands of children in 50 communities in the lower western portion of Bucks County and eastern Montgomery County – acted as Santa’s helpers Sunday morning as they shopped for $15,000 in toys at the Toys R Us store in Horsham.
With a special focus on toys for boys and girls in the 8 to 11 age range and bigger kids ages 11 to 13, the volunteers loaded up carts with jewelry and craft kids, Halo video games, Hedbanz and more. From there, toys were placed in large cardboard donation boxes and loaded into a waiting United States Marine Corps vehicle.
On average, the chapter serves more than 12,000 children in need each holiday season, according to Guy Vogel, the chapter’s assistant coordinator. With the Toys R Us generous replenishment, Vogel said the chapter is in good shape with toys, but lacks enough volunteers to sort and fill orders.
