Bristol Intersection To Get Red-Light Enforcement Signals

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — A busy intersection in Bristol Township will be getting new traffic signals designed to record red-light runners.

The intersection is along New Falls Road, where it meets Woodbourne, Edgely and Emilie roads. On Monday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced PennDOT will be sending $8.2 million to 13 municipalities to pay for safety projects.

In Bristol, $199,315 is earmarked for replacing all signal equipment at the intersection.

Pennsylvania's Automated Red Light Enforcement project is designed to improve safety by providing automated enforcement at places where data shows red-light running has been a problem.

"This program helps communities across the state make important investments in traffic flow and safety," Wolf said. "These improvements complement PennDOT’s ongoing work to improve safety and mobility across Pennsylvania."

The money for the grants comes from red-light violation fines at 31 intersections in Philadelphia. Across Pennsylvania, 123 municipalities applied for the grants.

Projects were selected by an eight-member committee, based on criteria such as safety benefits, cost and local and regional impact.
