Factory Fumes Led To Levittown Hazmat Responders Dispatched
Multiple area fire and emergency responders headed to the Covanta facility Wednesday to respond to the incident.
LEVITTOWN, PA — Firefighters and Hazmat teams from Bucks County and Trenton were dispatched to the Covanta facility in Morrisville for a hazmat call Wednesday afternoon.
Levittown Now reported that workers at the metal recycling company had sprayed a dust cloud of aluminum dross — a byproduct of aluminum smelter plants — with water. The mix of water and dross caused a chemical reaction that filled the facility with potentially dangerous fumes.
No injuries were reported, but higher-than-normal levels of fumes remained in parts of the facility into Wednesday evening, Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said.
