Bristol Schools Announce Coronavirus Cases

BRISTOL, PA — A student and an employee of the Bristol Borough School District tested positive for the coronavirus over the weekend, according to officials.

In a letter Sunday to the school community, district Superintendent Rose Minniti said officials learned Saturday that an employee had tested positive for COVID-19. Then, she said, a high school student received notice of a positive test on Sunday.

According to the letter, the employee caught the virus from a family member. The worker had not been in the elementary or high school buildings since Tuesday and has had no significant contact with teachers or students since then.

While in school buildings, the employee wore a mask, used hand sanitizer and maintained social distancing protocols, Minniti said. The worker is under the care of a doctor and only experiencing mild symptoms, according to the letter.

Students or staff believed to have been in direct contact with the employee already have been notified by the district, as has the Bucks County Department of Health.

The district also has contacted the families of students believed to have had close contact with the sick high school student, Minniti said. By district standards, that is any student who was within six feet for more than 15 minutes.

The district is deep-cleaning the room where the student attended class.

"All students and families are reminded that they should be regularly checking for symptoms of COVID-19," Minniti wrote. "The most common signs and symptoms include: fever greater than 100 degrees, cough, shortness of breath, headaches, body aches, fatigue, loss/altered sense of taste or smell, diarrhea, and runny nose/congestion ... .

"It is vital that we all do what we can to protect the safety of the entire Bristol Borough community."
