Facebook Reunites Levittown Woman with Birth Mother

After 37 years, a woman and her birth mother are finally reunited thanks to a Facebook exchange.

Dianne Gladwin Gill, at 16, was determined not to see or hold the little girl to whom she had just given birth because she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to give her up for adoption, phillyburbs.com reports.

In Lower Bucks Hospital records, the baby was known as "Baby Girl Gladwin," and adopted by Joan and John McAninley, who were open with their new daughter about her adoption, the story states.

Fast forward into adulthood, Donna Scheer, of Levittown, started searching for her birthmother. Ironically, Gill, now of St. Petersburg, Fla., had posted her information on adoption.com, hoping to reunite with her daughter someday. “OMG!! I have just read this messages and I am flabergasted. I am elated, I have been putting up messages on Adoption.com for years . . . You have a 23 year old brother named Sean and he has no idea, I was always afraid to tell him because I couldn’t find you and wasn’t sure if you wanted to be found. I will tell soon though . . . I am sitting here crying to have finally been able to connect with you”

Scheer and Gill exchanged thousands of Facebook messages until last Tuesday, when they met for the first time.
