Fairless Hills Literary Magazine Editor Passes Away At 50

David Kime was the editor of Transcendent Visions, which featured creative works by people in recovery. He died Dec. 9 at the age of 50.

David A. Kime, 50, of Fairless Hills, PA, was born on August 29, 1967 and died at Lower Bucks Hospital in Fairless Hills, PA, on December 9, 2017. David edited a literary magazine, Transcendent Visions, since 1992, which featured creative works by people in recovery.

Over the years, he has published over one thousand poets, short story writers and visual artists. Several of the people he has published were included in No Restraints: an anthology of Disability Culture in Philadelphia, a book that was edited by Gil Ott, which was published in 2002.He also ran Creative People in Recovery at the Reach Out Foundation in Langhorne, PA since 2006.

He was a mentor to many people in the local recovery movement, helping them to find their creative voice through art or writing.He was a member of Coalition Ingenue, a Philadelphia area art group that held shows for self- taught artists at various galleries in the region, including the HAI gallery in New York City. He also belonged to the Artists of Bristol group.

David was an advocate for people living with mental illness. He wrote guest opinions for local papers, and helped to start a Sunday social group for people in recovery and visited local politicians to help them understand what it is like for someone to live with a brain disorder.He was a deacon at the United Christian Church in Levittown. He was a member of the Bux-Mont Coalition for Peace Action.

His family members who are left behind are: a sister, Barbara Kime Currence, and her husband, Michael Currence, of McKinney, TX; a nephew, Rhys Kime of W. Palm Beach, FL, a niece, Megan Kime McCarthy, of Montgomery, AL, several cousins, one aunt, and many loving friends. David was preceded in death by his sister, Marie, his father, Norman Kime, and his mother, Ann Kime.

A memorial service will be held at United Christian Church, 8525 New Falls Road, Levittown, PA, 19054, on Tuesday December 19, 2017 at 11:00 am. Friends may call from 10:30 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, if you so choose, please send a donation in memory of David, to Reach Out Foundation, 152 Monroe Ave., #1, Langhorne, PA.
