Hockey Rink In Falls Twp. To Get Upgrades

Supervisors are hoping a state grant will pay for most of the renovations at the rink at Falls Township Community Park.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — The hockey rink in Falls Township is expected to get some major upgrades in the near future.

Supervisors in the township last week sent out for bids on the work on the rink at Falls Township Community Park, on Mill Creek Road. Bids will be opened on March 11 and construction is expected to start around the beginning of May.

Planned upgrades at the rink include resurfacing, replacing the dasher board, restoring fencing, painting, marking the surface and sealing cracks.

Supervisors hope a state grant will cover most of the cost of the upgrades. Last year, supervisors applied for a Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant from the commonwealth. They expect to hear whether it was approved soon.

If awarded, the grant would cover roughly $139,000 of the project's total $163,000 cost, with the township paying for the rest.
