Langhorne Woman Competing In Tattoo Magazine's Model Contest

A love for tattoos, horror movies and costuming inspired the 33-year-old to compete for the $25,000 grand prize.

LANGHORNE, PA — A woman from the Levittown area is hoping her penchants for body art, costuming and horror movies will push her to the top of a national tattoo-focused magazine's modeling contest.

Dana Webb, 33, of Langhorne, has advanced to the top 10 in her group in Inked magazine's 2021 Cover Girl competition. The winner will receive $25,000 and appear on the cover of the monthly magazine.

On Monday, she was in 5th place, with the top five models in her group advancing to the contest's next round. The contest is being decided by free votes and paid votes, which benefit MusiCares, a program by the Recording Academy that supports musicians in need.

Webb said the decision to enter the contest wasn't an automatic one.

"At first I was very hesitant to enter," she said. "I love modeling and dressing up, but putting myself out into the world in such a huge contest was frightening to me. But, my husband, who is super supportive and my number one fan, pushed me and believed enough in me to finally give me the confidence to enter.

"So now I use the contest as a way to prove to myself that I am braver than I give myself credit for."

In addition to showing off her tattoos — she got her first at age 18 and now has eight, with another arm-long sleeve in progress — her photos show off Webb's love of horror movies, fantasy and science fiction.

Many of the shots make her look like a gory, R-rated slasher flick's leading lady, while others depict her in costumes paying homage to comic book favorite Harley Quinn and Dana Barrett from "Ghostbusters."

Webb and her husband, Blair, are involved with Scares That Care, a nonprofit that unites horror fans to help sick children and adults fighting breast cancer. They also run Fright Night Sketches, which lets customers get artwork of themselves as zombies, vampires and other horror monster.

Webb said she appreciates getting this far in the Inked competition with such a nontraditional approach to modeling.

"This contest has showed me how much people, even complete strangers, actually support me and my family and actually want to see me succeed," she said.

She's got another inspiration, too. The $25,000 prize would help a lot with a new baby, the couple's second, on the way.

"Being a pregnant model would be so amazing and special," she said. "Sadly, we live in a world where body shaming is so prominent. I still get body shamed for being skinny, but I’ve always been skinny my whole life. So, I would hope that being a pregnant model will show that you can beautiful in your own skin, no matter what."

The current round of the Inked magazine contest runs through Thursday, Feb. 11. The whole contest will wrap up on March 11.
