New Sesame Place Features To Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Snuffleupagus is moving into an all-new Sesame Street Neighborhood for a year-long celebration of the beloved show's 50-year mark.

LANGHORNE, PA — Sesame Street turns 50 years old this year and Sesame Place will be rolling out some new features, and new faces, to celebrate.

For the first time, Snuffleupagus — Big Bird's elusive friend — will be moving into the theme park in Langhorne when it opens in the spring. Also, an all-new Sesame Street Neighborhood will be unveiled, reflecting the popular children's show's new set.

And, there will be a brand-new show starring the Muppets from Sesame Street, Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Big Bird.

"Having been in this position now for just over a year, it is incredible to think of the remarkable transformation that has taken place at the park," said park president Cathy Valeriano. "We have invested more resources than ever before into ensuring an outstanding experience for our guests.

"Being able to also celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary will truly make this our most exciting season yet."

Last year, Sesame Place was the world's first theme park to be designated a Certified Autism Center.

Park officials say the new Sesame Street Neighborhood will reflect the vibrant set now used on Sesame Street, "making guests feel as though they've stepped right into the show."

All-new interactive character elements and storefronts including Hooper’s Store, the iconic 123 stoop, Abby’s Garden and Big Bird’s Nest will be among the new photo opportunities for park visitors.

Sesame Place's 2019 opening weekend is set for May 4-5. An opening day parade and other special events are planned.

Sesame Street premiered on public television stations on Nov. 10, 1969, becoming the first pre-school educational TV program to base its content and production on educational research.
