Run The Gates 5-Miler Set For June 7

The 10th annual road race will benefit organizations for the disabled.

When runners toe the line for the 10th Annual Run the Gates 5-miler on June 7th, they won’t just be running a race. They’ll be supporting three crucial Bucks County disability-services organizations that proceeds from the race directly benefit.

Delta Community Supports, Handicapped Crusaders, and the Center for Independent Living Bucks County will each receive a third of the proceeds.

The course is run in a figure-eight loop that takes participants through several gates. From Forythia Crossing Park runners will traverse through Snowball Gate, and then come back through the park before traversing Red Rose and Forsythia Gates.

The course was designed to be challenging, interactive, and fan-friendly so that runners and fans of all experience levels could enjoy the event.

“The stadium-style setting at the park, where runners can be seen at the start, half-way point and at the end, adds to the enjoyment for spectators and families,” said race director John O’Brien. “Our musical entertainment is placed here at start/finish area so that the runners get a musical boost three times.”

O’Brien said that the race began as a walkathon in Falls Township Park almost 16 years ago.

“Walkers of all abilities, some with handicaps, were challenged to walk and raise funds for they charities (four organizations back then- Four for the Future). After a few years, the Bucks County Road Runners were asked to incorporate a run to the mix.“

In addition to benefiting charities, road races also inspire a sense of solidarity amid a field of athletes competing and suffering for the same cause.
Races for charity do great things for the population they benefit,

The Gates communities at large( Forsythia, Snowball, Red Rose, etal.) also look forward each year to the runners and walkers traipsing through their neighborhoods. For two-three hours on June 7th, you will sense a community coming together , albeit briefly, for a great cause.
