TV Show Stars To Launch New Sesame Place Neighborhood

LANGHORNE, PA — Two longtime "Sesame Street" actors will be on hand this week to celebrate the opening of the new Sesame Street Neighborhood at Sesame Place.

Sonia Manzano, who portrayed Maria on Sesame Street for 44 years, and Alan Muraoka, who joined the ensemble 20 years ago, will be at the Langhorne theme park for the grand opening, beginning at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 31.

The Sesame Street Neighborhood at Sesame Place is designed to reflect the show's vibrant, modern-day set, offering guests an authentic experience making them feel they're actually on the street the know so well.

All-new interactive character elements and storefronts — including Hooper's Store, the iconic 123 stoop, Abby's Garden and Big Bird's Nest — will be among the new photo opportunities for park visitors.

Park guests who attend the grand opening ceremony also will see the world premier performance of the park's new live show, "Our Street Is Sesame Street," featuring Elmo, Abby Cadabby and Big Bird.

This year, the park is holding a season-long celebration honoring Sesame Street's 50th anniversary.

Sesame Street premiered on public television stations on Nov. 10, 1969, becoming the first pre-school educational TV program to base its content and production on educational research.
