Victim On Life Support After Assault, Bucks Co. Man Charged: DA

LEVITTOWN, PA — A suspect has been charged in connection with a domestic assault that landed a Bucks County woman in the Intensive Care Unit, the District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

Evan Smith, a Bucks County resident, was arrested after Falls Township Police were dispatched Thursday night to 201 Lincoln Highway for reports of a woman in cardiac arrest.

Upon arrival, officers said they observed Evan Smith administering CPR to the victim, who was without a pulse. First responders established a pulse and transported the victim to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where the DA’s office said she is on life support in the Intensive Care Unit.

Police described Smith as “combative and uncooperative” with first responders, and said that he drove away from the scene. Officers pursued him, and would later apprehend him near Hunter Drive in Morrisville, according to reports.

Smith told police that the couple engaged in a heated verbal argument prior to engaging in sexual activity, at which time Smith choked the victim to the point of unconsciousness. Medical reports indicate that her injuries are consistent with strangulation, the DA’s office said.

Smith faces charges of Aggravated Assault, Strangulation, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Simple Assault, and Fleeing and Eluding. He was arraigned in front of Judge Kronnegal and is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.

This case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Mary Kate Kohler and investigated by the Bucks County Detectives, and Falls Township Police Detective Dennis O’Connell.
