VIDEO: Watch Time-Lapse Of New Falls Rd. Bridge Construction
Crews used cranes to lift six steel girders into place on the new bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
LEVITTOWN, PA — The team working on the new bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike on New Falls Road shared video of their progress on Thursday.
The roadway has been closed since May of last year for the bridge replacement, which is expected to be complete by the end of this summer. The work is being done by the turnpike commission and is about five miles east of the Bensalem interchange and one mile west of the Levittown/Bristol interchange.
Crews are removing an old, single-span steel girder bridge and building a new, two-span, steel-plated girder bridge.

The video, shared by Urban Engineers of Philadelphia, shows the new steel girders being lifted into place back in January. During the work, traffic on the turnpike was detoured for about five hours.
A total of six girders, which were delivered to the site on trailers, were lifted into place by two cranes.
