Black Lives Matter Mural Gets Under Construction In Norristown

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown's long-awaited Black Lives Matter mural will be installed in the downtown area this week, bringing to culmination a project that has been planned and discussed for months.

The project, which organizers say is a symbol of community strength and unity, will be positioned prominently across from the Montgomery County Courthouse on Swede Street, adjacent to 425 Swede Street. The project was originally approved by council last August and the final design was approved in February.

The municipality will shut down the 400 block of Swede street, at the courthouse and One Montgomery Plaza, while the installation work is underway. The closure will be in place through next week, officials said.

The mural was designed by artists Jeleata Nicole, a former Norristown resident who lives in South Carolina, and Drew Montemayor, a Conshohocken native and East Falls resident.
