NORRISTOWN, PA — With temperatures dipping down to dangerous lows, officials are urging residents to take precautions.
A Code Blue cold weather alert was issued in Montgomery County Thursday evening, and is set to run through Sunday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.
Code Blue indicates that "winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter," officials said. Temperatures will be in the teens the next few nights, with wind chills even lower. After the extra-cold spell passes, snow is likely to come late Sunday through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Over the next few days, residents should check in on the elderly and neighbors to make sure their homes are heated.

Pets should also have only limited outdoor time, and vehicles should be stocked with antifreeze and an emergency kit, as well as fully inflated tires.

Families in need of shelter should go to the Salvation Army in Norristown (610-275-4183), or the Your Way Home Call Center at 2-1-1.
