Cyril "Cy" Burke Sworn In to Norristown Municipal Council

Burke will serve as an interim at-large council member until the seat is filled in the November election.

Cyril "Cy" Burke Jr. was sworn in Tuesday night by Judge Francis Lawrence as Norristown Municipal Council's newest at-large council member. The position is temporary, with Burke holding the seat until a new council member is elected in November. He was appointed to the seat at .

"I feel for the short period of time that I'm going to be [here], hopefully I can do some good work," said Burke of his appointment.

Burke and his wife Donna have lived in Norristown's West End for over six years. He's been active in the community, both at his church (All Saints Episcopal Church) and as a founding member of the West End Association. Burke also serves on then board of the Municipal Waste Authority for Norristown.

Burke said he hopes he can take some of the lessons he's learned in Norristown these past few years and bring some new thoughts to council. He'll be serving on the finance and personnel committee chaired by Councilwoman Cathy Lawrence.

Council made two more appointments at Tuesday's meeting – Kelly Devine was named as an alternate to the Zoning Hearing Board and Hakim Jones was appointed to the Planning Commission.

Also, the next council meeting was rescheduled from Tuesday, May 21 to Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. to accomodate for the May primary election. At that May 22 meeting, council will hold a public hearing to amend the municipality's Uniform Construction Code, which outlines when construction projects do or do not require a permit.
