East Norriton's Sandy Nadwodny, Hall of Fame Coach, Dies

Once a Congressional aide, Hall of Fame field hockey coach and former athletic director Sandy Nadwodny was a force in Montgomery County.

EAST NORRITON, PA — Sandy Nadwondny, a longtime East Norriton resident and Hall of Fame field hockey coach in Montgomery County, died at Einstein Medical Center last weekend. She was 75.

Once a Congressional aide, Nadwodny soon embarked upon a four-decade coaching and athletic administrative career that would leave ripples long after she was gone.

She spent 35 years teaching, coaching, and leading programs at Bishop Kenrick High School and Kennedy-Kenrick High School.

During her tenure at Kenrick, she built a powerhouse from nothing, leading her teams to a dominant 121-28-23 record, according to her profile in the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame. She led her teams to three Catholic League championships.

Her feats were not limited to field hockey; for 25 years, she served as Kenrick's athletic director, and she also coached the softball team to a 121-23 record in Catholic league competition. In 2013, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Visitation Church, with a funeral mass at 11 a.m., according to her obituary.
