Einstein Medical Center Growing in East Norriton

The hospital is expanding ahead of schedule, according to Einstein COO Beth Duffy.

Visitors to the fairly new Einstein Medical Center Montgomery in East Norriton recently may be surprised to see construction afoot at the front of building. Turns out after having only opened in September last year, the hospital isn't nearly done yet.

In fact, according to a release issued by Einstein, the hospital is even expanding. Einstein is currently in the process converting the fourth floor of the hospital's west wing—now being used for administrative offices and conference rooms—into 24 new patient rooms.

"The early success of Einstein Medical Center Montgomery has created the need for additional patient care areas," said the hospital's chief operating officer, Beth Duffy, in the release. "The administrative space at Einstein Montgomery was specifically designed for a fast conversion to patient rooms, with the thought that we would eventually need to expand. We’re prepared to do that without disrupting the care being delivered to our patients."

Some staff members currently housed in the fourth floor will be relocated throughout the rest of the hospital, and the rest will move to a modular building being installed to the north of the Minerva D. Braemer Medical Arts Building.

"The tremendous response we’ve received from the community here in Central Montgomery County reaffirms our research that showed there was a significant need for a broader and deeper range of healthcare services in the region," Barry R. Freedman, president and chief executive officer for Einstein Healthcare Network said in the release. "While we’ve accounted for this possible expansion in our strategic plan, this has happened even faster than we could have predicted."

The project is expected to take up to nine months and will add an additional two dozen medical/surgical beds for multi-specialty use. Once completed, the medical center’s total number of licensed beds will be up to 170, all of which are in private rooms.
