Elmwood Zoo Asks For Public's Help In Naming New Baby Sloth

You decide: what should Elmwood Park Zoo name its newest resident?

NORRISTOWN, PA — Elmwood Park Zoo welcomed a new resident into their community this month, as a baby sloth was born.

The sloth is still adjusting to her surroundings, and is not quite ready to make public appearances in her exhibit yet, the zoo said. However, fans of the zoo can still help welcome her to Norristown by participating in her naming ceremony.

The public can pick from five different names:

  • Banana
  • Liana (a woody climbing plant that hangs from trees, especially in tropical rainforests)
  • Pana (used in Venezuela to mean "buddy" or "pal")
  • Penelope
  • Vida

You can vote online here.

Once she's ready to emerge, the linnaeus sloth will be in a new exhibit adjacent to the Trail of the Jaguar. Construction crews are currently preparing her home.
