EAST NORRITON, PA — Numerous major political figures from both sides of the aisle were in southeastern Pennsylvania over the weekend, underscoring the vital importance of the greater Philadelphia area in potentially determining the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Among those faces with national recognition was the former South Carolina governor and United States ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley. Haley visited East Norriton Saturday as part of an event called the "Indian Voices for Trump Fireside Chat."

Haley, 48, who is of Indian descent, touted America's relationship with India under the Trump administration. She also spoke on extensively on the economy, arguing that Trump had helped foster Indian-American success.

Haley was rumored as a potential Trump's running mate in 2016, and makes frequent appearances on the short list of Republican names who could run for president in 2024.

The event was held at the Presidential, a wedding venue and event space on 2910 DeKalb Pike. Her appearance was a conversation with Republican delegate and chair of the Indian Voices for Trump initiative, Merlynn Carson.

It came just a day before another major Republican figure, President Trump's daughter Tiffany Trump, held a campaign event in nearby Flourtown. That event aimed to court a different demographic: "Jewish Voices for Trump."

Later on Sunday, Haley made campaign stops in Reading and West Brandywine Township.

President Trump won battleground Pennsylvania by just 44,000 votes over Hillary Clinton in 2016. He currently trails former Vice President Joe Biden in the polls, but has narrowed the gap in Pennsylvania to just under five points, according to RealClearPolitics.
