Flash Flood Warning In Parts Of Montco As Heavy Storms Move In

A strong Thursday morning thunderstorm that dumped up to three inches of rain in the area could again cause flash flooding issues.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A strong Thursday morning thunderstorm that dumped up to three inches of rain in the local area could again cause flash flooding in the area and threaten roadways.

The central part of Montgomery County was specifically noted as at risk, including Montgomeryville, Lansdale, and the surrounding area. Central Bucks was also included in the warning.

"Multiple roads have been reported as flooded and closed by local emergency management. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen based on radar and gauge estimates," the National Weather Service said in its Flash Flood Warning. "Flash flooding is already occurring and expected to continue."

Flooding of small creeks and streams as well as streets is possible, the National Weather Service added, putting the Perkiomen, Skippack, and of course the Schuylkill at risk of flooding.

The National Weather Service's hydrologic gauge of the Schuylkill River at Norristown showed that the river remained below nine feet in height as of Thursday morning. It's flow was not predicted to rise to a flood stage comparable to last week's storm, nor was Perkiomen Creek's.

Still, due to already wet ground and elevated water levels in streams around the area, the county's waterways and roads are at a heightened risk of flooding, officials said.

The Flash Flood Warning remains in place through 1 p.m. Another inch of rain is possible this morning, forecasters say.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
