MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Authorities around Montgomery County will be collected unwanted or expired medications later this month as part of the DEA's nationwide Drug Take Back Day.

The event offers residents a chance to clean out their cabinets and dispose of medications in an environmentally safe way. Ridding medicine cabinets of addictive drugs is one of the most important tactics in fighting the ongoing opioid epidemic, authorities say.

"A key way to make your home safer is to get rid of unwanted medications," District Attorney Kevin Steele. "But we don’t want residents to flush the meds or put them out in the trash—both are unsafe ways to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications."
