Gun, Drugs Seized From Intoxicated Man, Police Say

Police say Kwame Stanley was sleeping one off at the Norristown Transportation Center when they were called to the scene.

Twenty-three year Kwame Stanley picked the wrong place to take a nap and it landed him drug and weapon's charges and a trip to a holding cell.

According to a report from the Norristown Police Department, officers were called to the Norristown Transportation Center just before 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, for a report of a suspicious person.

On the scene, a security guard who led them to Stanley asleep on a bench on the second floor. According to the guard, Stanley was refusing to leave the station. Officers tried to wake Stanley and finally roused him after several attempts, according to the report. Police said he exhibited slurred speech, glassy eyes and was visibly intoxicated so they took him into custody.

A search of Stanley's person reportedly revealed a loaded .32 caliber revolver in the front waistband of his pants and a clear sandwich bag containing two blue packets with a brown powder substance. The substance field-tested positive for heroin, according to police.

A check of Stanley's criminal history revealed him to be a person prohibited from carrying a firearm. Further checks revealed Stanley did not have a permit to carry a concealed firearm.

Stanley is facing weapons and drug-related charges as well as a charge of public drunkenness. He was arraigned on Wednesday and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 2.
