Longtime Norristown Woman, Teacher, Passes Away

NORRISTOWN, PA — Estelle Priscilla (White) Oney left this earthly world for everlasting life on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Suburban Community Hospital. Estelle was born on February 4, 1943 to the late Floyd White and Henrietta (James) White in Norristown, Pa.

Estelle was educated in the Norristown Area School District. Estelle had her first child earlier in life but soon met and fell in love with her husband, Edward Oney and five children were born out of that union.
Estelle dedicated her life to God and became a member of her family church, Norristown Church of God where she worshiped for many years.

Estelle was employed at a variety of businesses in the Norristown area throughout her life time. The two most recent and most fulfilling for her included working as a teacher’s aide at DeKalb Day school, followed by working as a chef at Arch Gardens, were she remained until she retired.

Anyone who knew Estelle can tell you about her love of going out to eat at her favorite places which included: KFC, Old Country Buffet and Friendly’s; watching her favorite television shows: Wheel of Fortune, Golden Girls, Cailou and most other cartoon shows, around this time of year she loved holiday shows and movies, especially Home Alone. Estelle also loved looking after her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would always babysit, she particularly enjoyed babies, and she would change their clothes, play with them, and talk to them all day long. And when their parents arrived to pick them up, there is no doubt that they would learn something new about their child, such as they crawled or walked across the bed for the first time.

Left to cherish fond memories of Estelle are her children: Floyd White, Estelle Goodwin (Arthur), John Oney, Sr., and James Oney, all of Norristown. Her 10 grandchildren: Tahara Peterson, Calvin Peterson (Takeeia), Edward Oney III, Chawanna Green, Jessica Green, and Kayla Oney, all of Norristown; Christina Bowie (Timothy) of York, Pa; Henrietta Goodman, Ann Marie Tennessee, and John Tennessee, all of Philadelphia, Pa; and 24 great-grandchildren. Her sisters: Lucy Green (Leroy) and Amanda Devine, her brothers: Ernest White and John White, sister in law: Theresa White, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Estelle was preceded in death by her husband: Edward Oney Sr., Sons: Edward Oney Jr., and Howard Oney; sisters: Henrietta Butler, Ella White, and Mary Johns; brothers: James White and William Johnson.
