Montco Under 'Code Red' Temperature Warning Starting Sunday

Forecasts call for a heat index of 100 degrees or more from Sunday to Wednesday.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A "Code Red" hot weather warning has been issued for Montgomery County starting on Sunday as the area's heat index climbs to around 100 degrees.

Montgomery County Commissioners issued the warning on Friday after reviewing National Weather Service forecasts and consulting with the county's department of public safety, commissioners said in a news release.

According to the release, heat index values will climb to at or above 100 degrees between noon and 6 p.m. from Sunday though Wednesday.

During hot periods, residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness.

Common and effective ways to beat the heat include drinking plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids, wearing lightweight clothes and staying in air-conditioned buildings when possible.

Most of the county's Senior Adult Activity Centers, malls and libraries are air-conditioned.

Extreme heat poses a more serious threat to young children, elderly adults, people with chronicle medical issues and people on certain medications.

In the release, commissioners urge residents to be good neighbors and check on at-risk people.
