Giersdorf's final tally of 59 points gave him a massive margin of victory over second place.

He was followed in second place by 24-year-old professional player Harrison "Psalm" Chang, who won $1.8 million. Chang had 33 points.

Giersdorf has signed on with the esports organization Sentinels, and his victory has earned him an international following, with more than 200,000 followers of Twitter. There are even Bugha jerseys for sale in the Sentinels online store.

The event took place before a packed crowd at Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium, and was also watched live by hundreds of thousands online, according to organizers.
