New Firefighter, Police Promotions on Agenda for Tonight's Municipal Meeting
Council will also vote on a budget amendment to transfer funds to a summer program for youth volunteers to make home repairs for poor and elderly residents.

Norristown Municipal Council meets again tonight, Tuesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Norristown Municipal Hall, 235 East Airy Street in Norristown. Among the business on tonight's agenda is the hiring of a new full-time firefighter for the Norristown Fire Department, longtime volunteer Robert Spitko, and the promotion of two police officers – Officer Kenneth Lawless to Sergeant and Officer Eric Gergel to Corporal.
According to The Times Herald, council is also expected to vote on a budget amendment to move $20,000 from the municipality's snow removal fund to pay for "Repair Mission Camp," a summer program that would bring hundreds of young volunteers to Norristown to work on repairing and rebuilding homes for low-income and disabled residents and seniors.
Council is currently raising money to help pay for the needed supplies and equipment rental for the volunteers. Eligible residents can apply for the program through Norristown's Code Enforcement Department. [Residents can download an application in our PDF section.]Â

Eligible repair projects include porch and step repairs, painting, weatherization and mobile home skirting. Call 610-270-0421 for more information on the program.
Tonight will also see a continuation of the public hearing on the Analysis of Impediments of Fair Housing Choice as designated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
