Norristown Children Learn Importance Of City Planning, Build 'Box City'

Children got to design and build their own little city as they learned about organizing schools, playgrounds, homes, and roads.

Norristown children learned about the importance of city planning during a Thursday event when they built a “box city” with Norristown’s Department of Planning and Municipal Development, the borough said.

Children love to be involved with projects that relate to the community around them. There are simple ways to engage children at all ages, in all aspects of community development and local government. Small steps in participation can make big differences in the way children view their community and their future involvement in government and decision making.

Educational programs like this one help children better understand the work that goes into creating the communities in which they live, the borough said.
