Norristown To Hold Controlled Deer Hunt

A deer hunt will be held in Norristown in January of 2017.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- The Montgomery County Division of Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites will host a one day controlled antlerless deer hunt at the Norristown Farm Park, the county announced Monday.

The hunt will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the county said.

The hunt is a part of a wildlife management program introduced by Montgomery County in 2005.

There are strict rules for what hunters are allowed to use and who is allowed to hunt. Applications must be submitted to the Norristown Farm Park via the following address: 2500 Upper Farm Road, Norristown, PA, 19403. Applicants should mark "deer hunt" on the bottom of the envelope. Included in the application should be: name, legal address, telephone number, driver’s license number, PA hunting license number, WMU 5D antlerless tag number(s), and a self-addressed envelope for coorespondence.

Only antlerless deer may be hunted, and only a 12-gauge shotgun can be used.

A public lottery will be held on December 3 at 10 a.m. to select a total of 38 qualified hunters, the county said. A mandatory safety meeting will be held before the hunt.
