Norristown Schools Reach Milestone: 2 Million Meals Of Pandemic

Norristown celebrated a milestone this week when they distributed pandemic meal number 2 million to the school community.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown Area School District celebrated a milestone this week when they distributed pandemic meal number two million to the school community.

Children in Norristown have received free breakfast and lunch five days per week since the coronavirus pandemic began. A total of 4,000 needy children received the meals each day, according to the district.

The district celebrated the event with much fanfare, with cheers going up as a vehicle approached to pick up the meal. There were also balloons and outsized presents wrapped in Norristown blue and white:

Norristown is one of the only districts in the region to remain fully virtual from the start of the pandemic, declining to move forward with a hybrid learning platform like many of their neighbors. They announced back in January that state metrics must be met for two weeks leading up to when they reopen.

The district celebrated their one millionth meal back on Sept. 30.

Meal distributions have taken place at elementary schools and other locations on a weekly basis. Each grab and go bag contains 12 meals.
