Montco HS Teacher Beats Out North America, Wins School $20K Grant
The local educator and Flyers fan has been named the NHL's "Most Valuable Teacher," beating out competitors from across North America.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Teachers from across North America competed in a National Hockey League competition to win their school district 20,000.
Tens of thousands of votes and 60 finalists winnowed down later, the results are in: Norristown Area School District's Donald Conaway Jr. is the winner.
"I was truly speechless," Flyers fan Conaway told NHL.com. His win was announced Monday during the Flyers-Devils game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

Conaway, who teaches 7th and 8th grade technology at Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy, had previously won a weekly competition — and another $10,000 grant for STEM programs in Norristown — in order to get to the finals.
Conaway told NHL.com that he'll help Norristown to create a STEM lab to give students real life experience in the classroom.

"This will change the learning of students in the Norristown Area School District for years," Eisenhower said in announcing the win.
The grants were provided by both the Flyers and SAP.
